FOC 2010, a concluding note. 5 days, 120 hours, 7200 minutes of preparation and effort. FOC 2010 has finally come to an end. It feels relieving, but yet perplexingly dejecting at the same time now that the camp has concluded. Beng an OGL was my very first wish after going through my freshmen orientation camp, though this decision wasn't an easy one. In fact, this has been a tumultuous experience, and I encountered multifarious perils along the way. It taught me to embrace the shortcomings of people, and loving individuals because of who they are. It really was exhausting, especially when I had to handle recalcitrants freshies in the midst of bonding the group, assisting them to construct those inseparable friendships and tending to my own illness with a horrible fever and flu. I had to put their welfare above mine, think ahead of what they potentially may require and managing their disappointment despite feeling weary and jaded myself. And working with Yanyu, Yini and Edwin wasn't particularly facile, especially when we didn't know much about each other. In fact, I had absolutely no idea how their personalities and working styles are like. I still remember the grey feeling on the very first day, where my freshies were quiet, unenthusiastic and some terribly problematic, and my fellow GLs so segregated that it made depending on them seemingly impossible. I felt lost, while watching other OGs progressing well, and having no one to lean on. But I thank Pedro and Kaishi, because they made me realized what is the most important role of an OGL. To acknowledge your own limitations, appreciate and trust others despite their imperfections, and to put your dear freshies before self. Thank you FOC 2010, it will be and always will be an unforgettable experience. |
