Communicating in a way that confirms yourself

It is just as important to confirm yourself as others. You are no less valuable than others, your needs are no less important, and your preferences are no less valid. 

You confirm yourself when you express your thoughts and feeling honestly. By doing that, you are showing you are respecting yourself. You also give others a chance to understand who you are. 

You communicate ethically when you assert your feelings, ideas, and preferences while honoring those of others.

If you do not assert yourself in personal relationships, you undermine your own and your partner's respect for your ideas, feelings, and needs.
