Snippets of Popular News Hunt for clues in India train bombings Seven blasts went off in the space of 15 minutes along the western railway line, tearing open first-class train carriages that were packed with people travelling home from work. The toll was 183 dead and 714 injured, police chief Pasricha said. The injured were being treated at dozens of different hospitals in the city and some were coping with horrific wounds. This terrorist attack is sure unexpected. A pretty traumatising blow to India's economy. More importantly, I wonder how much fear these citizens are going to live in for this period of unrest. These terrorists dying for media attraction? ____ ComfortDelGro checks on taxi drivers who "disappear" before peak periods SINGAPORE : Taxi operator ComfortDelGro is stepping up checks to ensure that its taxi drivers don't pick and choose their customers. About ten percent of the nearly 1,700 taxi drivers checked were caught and warned not to hold out for peak periods again. Ironically, I took less than a minute to flag a taxi today. In fact, there were two empty taxis awaiting for passengers to board. Perhaps the hike in taxi fares has intimidated Singaporeans away. Of course, this doesn't mean I am going to take a taxi freely. Can't believe I woke up at 7am today! Praise the lord for allowing me to reach just on time. I do not have another ezlink card for the disciplinarian to confiscate! _________ RIEC push in environmental water technologies a timely development: Dr Yaacob SINGAPORE : Minister for Environment and Water Resources Dr Yaacob Ibrahim has described the injection of $330 million by the Research, Innovation and Enterprise Council (RIEC) into research programmes on Environmental, and Water Technologies as a timely development. "We'll attract water technology companies and build up capability. We'll find a way to internationalise that capability beyond Singapore so that we'll go for projects in China, Middle East and India. I think this is a very good development for the water industry. Figures have been cited on how much we can grow in terms of value added and jobs," said Minister for Environment and Water Resources Dr Yaacob Ibrahim. As Dr (Tony) Tan said, this is about growing the economy, about creating higher value jobs. So I welcome this development and my Ministry is very keen, in terms of the role we can play, to help push and grow our economy in this sector," he added. I wonder if Singapore will finally be able to accelerate the production of water resource within the country. Its so not helping that none of us are interested to take a sip of that Newater. Honestly it just taste awful. I'll rather drink a cup of high-carbo coke instead of that. =P _______ |
